Children and Young People's Residential Care

Professional development pathways that strengthen leadership, support adults and build stable homes.

Working in a children’s home is complex. It asks a lot of the adults who show up every day.
You’re holding responsibility for emotional safety, stable routines, trusted relationships and regulatory standards, often all at once. Developing your team in that environment has to feel relevant and grounded in real life, not theoretical.
At Orange Moon Training, we work with children’s homes to support long-term staff development. Not just qualifications for the sake of it, but programmes that strengthen practice, leadership and home culture over time.

Our Programmes

We currently offer:

Level 4 Children, Young People and Families Practitioner Apprenticeship For experienced adults in children’s homes who are ready to deepen their practice, think more critically about their role and contribute more confidently to the way the home runs.

Level 5 Children, Young People and Families Manager Apprenticeship For those stepping into leadership or already within a management role. The focus is on leading adults well, creating relational consistency and shaping a stable home environment where children can feel a sense of belonging.

We also offer Diploma-only routes at both levels for organisations who prefer that option.

Across all programmes, the emphasis is on thoughtful, reflective leadership. We draw on evidence-informed approaches, trauma-informed practice and relationship-based work, but always in a way that makes sense in the context of a children’s home.

Over the past 12 months our distinction rate for these apprenticeships sits at 95%.

Working With You

We understand that every home is different. Some are building new leadership capacity. Others are thinking about succession planning. Many are simply trying to support and retain good adults in a demanding sector.

Our team includes tutors with direct experience of children’s residential care. Support is practical and responsive. We take time to understand how your home works and what you are trying to strengthen.

If you’re reviewing your staff development plans or thinking ahead to the next step for your team, we’d be happy to talk it through.

Unfortunately you will be unable to enrol onto an apprenticeship without a current employer who is willing to support your development through the programme.

You may wish to approach local settings directly to enquire whether they would be interested in supporting an apprenticeship. Should you identify a setting willing to do so, we would be pleased to support both you and the setting with your apprenticeship training.

Good luck and we hope to speak to you again in the very near future.
