Apprenticeship Duration

All Orange Moon Training apprenticeship programmes are based on a standard working week with a minimum of 6 hours per week dedicated to Off-the-Job (OTJ) training.

If an apprentice works fewer hours each week, their programme will normally be extended to ensure there is enough time to complete the required training and assessment.

If you would like to explore a shorter programme duration, this may be possible by increasing the apprentice's weekly OTJ training hours to meet the minimum DfE requirements.

Functional Skills

Some apprentices may need to complete Functional Skills English and/or Maths as part of their apprenticeship.

  • Apprentices aged 16–18: Functional Skills are mandatory if they do not already hold a recognised Level 2 qualification.
  • Apprentices aged 19+: Functional Skills will only be included where the employer wishes the apprentice to undertake them.
  • Early Years Educators (EYE) and Early Years Lead Practitioners (EYLP): A recognised Level 2 English qualification is required to achieve a full and relevant status. This requirement cannot be opted out of.
  • Management apprenticeships: Apprentices must hold Level 2 English and Maths to be considered fully qualified.

You may wish to approach local settings directly to enquire whether they would be interested in supporting an apprenticeship. Should you identify a setting willing to do so, we would be pleased to support both you and the setting with your apprenticeship training.
